WEEK 2.1: REFLECTION ON ‘THE POWER OF CONSUMERISM’

The video is about how social consumerism can change the world. Andre Angel said that non-profit organizations way of solving social causes could not help because donations have no stable income, but businesses rely on their products to get profitability which have reliable workforce.
He focused on hunger which is one of the serious social problems.
The 3 key aspects that we found useful for the questions ‘identity how design are used to turn us into a buying machine’ are the company design the products based on the local tastes and cultures of the countries to attract consumers, carry out a marketing campaign and also with the special or limited edition outlook or packaging designs of the product during festival. The 2 aspects that we disagree which are the point that he mentioned ‘The non-profit organizations spend more on marketing to attract more funding’, but some of them organized charities to earn the amount while also doing marketing. Next, he said that we can solve all of the social problems by business, but we can't really solve all of them especially like sexual abuse and etc.
Last, 1 thing that we curious about and need further research is how could we solve all of the social problems nowadays to build a better world.
